Northern Tanzania — Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater & the Wildebeest Calving Season

Why this departure

February is calving season: up to a million wildebeest give birth on the Ndutu plains, trailed by lion, cheetah and vultures — a spectacle to rival the Mara River crossing. The route goes deep into Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire, with a maximum of 18 guests and an optional paid Chinese-speaking tour leader. Suited to birders, photographers and family groups.

Highlights

  • Ndutu plains — mass calving, newborns and predators in the same frame
  • Ngorongoro Crater — the "eighth wonder", in search of Black Rhino
  • Serengeti — kopjes, woodland and endless plains
  • Classic species — elephant, lion, cheetah, Lilac-breasted Roller, Fischer's Lovebird, Secretarybird
  • Custom 4x4 Land Cruisers throughout, guaranteed window seat
